Historical Melbourne Wedding Venue | When planning a wedding in Melbourne, few venues capture the timeless elegance and historical charm quite like Sophia Prahran Arcade. This stunning historical Melbourne wedding venue is part of the Atlantic Group. It has transformed one of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings, formerly home to David Bromley’s studio for over 13 years. It is now a unique and exquisite events space.
Located within the iconic Prahran Arcade, this heritage building has seen many incarnations over the decades. Today, this historic Chapel Street icon has been lovingly restored to its former glory to become “Sophia”. A multi-faceted events space that can host every style of occasion. Inside, you’ll find two spaces that may be used independently or together — a grand ballroom and a gorgeous space reminiscent of an art gallery.
Historical Melbourne Wedding Venue. The Sophia Ballroom & The Gallery
The Ballroom seats 100 or 150 for cocktails, featuring an elegant room adorned with ornate chandeliers and a breathtaking balcony overlooking Chapel Street. The Gallery accommodates 200 or 350 for cocktails. Showcasing a remarkable 60-meter space punctuated by 26 arched windows. It reveals the elaborate architectural works suspended high above the arcade. Sophia epitomises the excesses of late 19th-century architecture in Victoria — she is truly a showstopper!
As an experienced Melbourne wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing stunning love stories in this iconic space. Lauren and Setefano envisioned a warm and intimate celebration at Sophia Prahran Arcade, enriched with live soul music and a modern ethereal aesthetic. This historical Melbourne wedding venue perfectly reflects their love, family, and shared history. With every detail — from candlelit spaces to live performances — crafting an unforgettable atmosphere.
Lauren and Setefano shared their heartfelt thoughts about the experience:
“Your work is just fn epic and totally suits our aesthetic. Your personality and vibe really helped us make our decision. The positive and warm energy you brought made our day that much more special.
