TELL ME ABOUT YOUR THE BEGINNING!
Bernie and I were set up on a blind date by mutual friends. I was running a little late, getting caught up at work (Bernie adds a bit of mayo to the story saying I was running half an hour late). We went out for dinner to the Hairy Goat, a local restaurant, and I remember chatting the whole night and the conversation being so easy to the point where the restaurant turned off the lights on us; we then went and had a drink at the local pub. Bernie says it was love at first sight for him (I took a little bit more convincing), but Bernie eventually won me over with his humour, Mr Bean moves (that's another story) and just genuine kind heart!
WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU GET ENGAGED?
We got engaged in Fiji in September 2022. Bernie had booked a surprise night away at the gorgeous Momi Bay Resort. On the day of the proposal, Bernie had been acting a little strange. I remember getting ready in the evening, and we planned to watch the sunset and then have a nice dinner. Bernie asked me to put on these white pants (instead of the black dress I was wearing), thinking that was strange as he never comments on what I'm wearing but disregarding his comments and wearing what I wanted to anyway. He had ordered a bottle of bubbles, anxiously awaiting the bubbles' arrival, he worked himself into a sweat, concerned we would miss the sunset.
When the bottle of bubbles finally arrived, we watched the sunset over the ocean, and there was the most beautiful sunset and pink sky behind us. Bernie asked me to turn around and take a picture of the beautiful pink sky behind us, and then I turned around, and he was on one knee. I froze and just cried until he prompted a response. We then finished the bottle of bubbles and went to dinner on such a high the waiter asked us if we would like a bottle of bubbles to celebrate, and being so excited, we just said surprise us. Anyway, it turns out we ordered a $500 bottle of bubbles safe to say we didn't have a nasty wine hungover the next day, haha! We called our family that night but just enjoyed the engagement bubble. It was the perfect proposal and a day we will both treasure forever!
HOW DO YOU ENVISION YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Bernie and I had VERY different visions of our wedding day, so it involved lots of compromises, haha! Bernie is the life of the party, and I am anxious, so the thought of saying my vows in front of many people would involve lots of pre-ceremony wines to calm my nerves. Our compromise was a big engagement party and a small wedding.
Bernie and I love entertaining and seeing our friends and family happy, so when we decided to have a small wedding, our only vision for the day was to ensure that it was relaxed, that we were present for all of the moments and get to enjoy good food and wine with our people!
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
